YOUR 2025-26 ENDOWMENT REPORT
We are pleased to share a summary of your endowment's recent activity
Sharon Bradwell, thank you for your support, which is vital to our fight for child health.
A MESSAGE FROM SICKKIDS FOUNDATION PRESIDENT AND CEO
Dear Friends,
It is with deep gratitude that I share this year’s endowment report: a snapshot of your collective investments in SickKids and our mission to heal the future. Your endowments continue to be a stable source of support for the Hospital and the thousands of children who rely on it — even amidst so much economic upheaval and uncertainty.
Despite the challenging environment, we had another truly recordbreaking fiscal year, as you’ll see throughout this report. This was achieved under the leadership of our senior team, volunteers and financial experts, who are as passionate about our cause as they are skilled at ensuring your endowments are protected and grow.
In addition to the financials in this report, a few numbers stand out. Of this year’s $46.1 million in endowment payouts, 85 per cent supported research initiatives — including brain tumour and cardiac research, two major challenges in child health. Roughly $2 million was invested in patient care, including through the Black Opportunity Endowment Fund for Sickle Cell Disease and the Douglas Crozier Cystic Fibrosis Fund, which both saw bursts in activity. Among our many endowed fellowships, the Ukraine Paediatric Fellowship Program had the single largest endowment grant of $350,000, furthering one of our missions to educate the next generation of child health experts worldwide. In total, $2.5 million was invested in education this year.
I know that investing in the future is of the utmost importance to you. That’s one of the reasons I was so pleased to welcome you into the J.P. Bickell Society, a strong community of supporters helping to secure the future of SickKids and child health. I look forward to keeping you connected to the impact of your support throughout the year.
As we gear up to share the ambitious goals of our Heal the Future Campaign at our public launch in the fall, you will be among those who hear first how we will unleash our vision of Precision Child Health and individualized care for every child — so urgently needed to predict better, diagnose faster, and treat smarter.
Thank you again for your commitment and trust. I look forward to supporting a bright future for the children we have the privilege to care for together.
Sincerely,

Jennifer Bernard, CFRE

Investment Management and Philosophy
Endowment funds at SickKids Foundation provide an important base of funding for child health initiatives. These funds consist of externally restricted and unrestricted contributions and internal resources, transferred by the Board of Directors, where the capital is required to be maintained intact over the long term. Each year, the Board approves the rate of payout, or distribution from the funds.
The SickKids Foundation Board of Directors, through its Investment Committee, manages the Foundation’s endowed funds using a long-term, value-oriented investment philosophy.
The Committee believes that this philosophy best enables its objectives of preserving capital, enabling approved distribution (or payout), and realizing an average annual real total return after inflation of at least five per cent over a 10-year period. The Investment Committee regularly monitors the performance of the investment managers, selecting, appointing and releasing managers as required.
The endowment fund continues to be among the top one per cent of performers when assessing returns since inception.
